Thayer Case

Population: Children, Adolescents, Adults, Families, & Couples

Thayer Case, LCSW-R, SEP,  is co-director of Maverick Family Counseling and works with children, adults, seniors, and families. He has particular expertise in treating grief, anxiety, depression, attachment issues, ADHD, sensory integration and mild autistic spectrum issues, stress reduction, issues with spirituality, and trauma. Thayer works very closely with parents and children in various ways – both individually and in family modalities. He invites all aspects of human experience into therapy. Thayer views therapy as facilitating a process of empowerment and discovery, unfolding in a safe place, focused on how we experience, and ultimately free ourselves from our habitual patterns in the body, thoughts and emotions.

Trauma Resolution: Drawing on his training in Somatic Experiencing ®, body based psychotherapy, and decades of intensive meditation, Thayer works with many categories of trauma: car accidents, falls, surgical trauma, sexual and physical abuse, natural disasters, war and other forms of violence. In addition, Thayer also works with attachment-related trauma (developmental trauma) in the context of entire families or as individuals, as well as those who suffer from chronic pain or syndromes such as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.

Couples Coaching: Thayer offers 2-3 hour coaching sessions for couples who wish to effectively and intensely work on their relationship, cope with tragedy, and/or cultivate a more harmonious relationship. Please inquire about fees.

Parent Coaching and Groups: Thayer understands that parenting is a deep challenge to even those with the healthiest backgrounds, particularly in our current climate of stimulation, speed, and confusing expectations for both parents and kids. For those with instability or insecurity of any kind, raising children can be extremely difficult. Thayer helps parents meet these challenges in traditional therapy and as a coach/consultant. Please inquire about fees.

Dementia Caregiver Support: Drawing on his many years of experience with Hospice and Dementia Care, Thayer works with those seeking the incredibly challenging task of supporting a loved one who suffers from Alzheimer’s type dementia, or other types of dementia. This work can happen within a traditional psychotherapy model or as a coach/consultant. Please inquire about fees.

Presentations and Trainings: Thayer is available for presentations in schools, medical practices, mental health settings, and nursing homes and individual groups for trainings in various topics such as Alzheimer’s care, Attachment Theory, Managing Trauma (for both young and geriatric), and stress reduction and management in the work place. Please inquire about fees.

Thayer received his MSW from Columbia University, a Post Master’s Degree in Child and Adolescent Therapy from Fordham University and is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner  (SEP). Thayer is a Senior Student in the Mountains and Rivers Order of Zen Buddhism, a practice that deeply informs his work with clients.  In addition, Thayer was awarded the Honor of Social Worker of the Year in 2011 by the HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley.
